History of Los Angeles

The story of Los Angeles begins on September 4th, 1781 when it was founded as a small town called El Pueblo de la Reina de Los Angeles, or The Town of the Queen of Angels. It started as Spanish colonization and became an American town. The beautiful setting and warm, sunny climate quickly drew in people looking for a more suitable place to live. Even Daieda Willcox, the founder of Hollywood, came to L.A. to escape the Midwest chill.
Over the next two centuries, Los Angeles grew into one of the largest cities in the world and has a lot of history. The people of this town have been through a lot, from natural disasters to riots and political unrest, but despite this, many still consider the City of Angels as the place to go to see all your dreams come true.
